What many people might not consider is that a SketchUp Ruby plugin could be malicious. The plugins has full access to the file system and with the Win32 API it can access the registry.
When installing SketchUp plugins one should be just as careful as when you download a application, batch file or system scripting file. Make sure you trust the source and scan the plugin with a virus application before using it.
At the time of writing these words of warning there are no known malicious plugins as far as I am aware of. But one should nonetheless beware.
Hello Mr. TT.. I am also living in Norway (Oslo) and supporting my Girlfriend (who happens to be Russian, in St. Petersburg). She’s been learning Google Sketchup for some time, and thus, so have I (I’m a trained Engineer, but working as Project Manager, Consultant for IT company).. Anyway, she is all the sudden having a bunch of problems both with her Laptop (Vista Machine) and home computer (Win 7) running Google Sketchup Pro v8. The PC’s both are just shutting down randomly and without warning, and all on the same day, and now Kaspersky Antivirus is identifying something new… We have paid for your plugin (and used it more than a year)… And now, all the sudden Kaspersky AV SW is reporting the TTVertex plugin as a virus and putting a file into Quarentene .. it is identifying a file called tt_hamster.so in the directory c:\program files (x86)\google\google sketchup 8\plugins\tt_vertex\cext\win32\tt_hamster.so … No web searches on this are yielding anything, but I did take note of your comment about risks from Plugins… . if you have any ideas, please share them. Tusen Takk!!!
Yea – Kaspesky has caused trouble with the last update. It blocked a file in my TT_Lib2 pluing – as well as Vertex Tools. I’m not familiar it how you would do this in KAspesky, but you need to tell it to leave the files alone. Either tell it to ignore the whole Plugins folder, or Ignore the TT_Vertex folder and TT_Lib2 folder.
Then you need to reinstall the plugin in order to restore the files Kaspersky removed.
They are false positives and the matter has been reported to Kaspersky.
Btw – tt_hamster,so refer to version 1.0 – I recommend you also update to version 1.1.
but it doesn’t work for me the plug in because its blocked
Can you provide some more details please? What doesn’t work? What is blocked? Is this related to Kaspesky? I cannot help unless you describe what happens, with what and what the expected result it.
VT_CEXT.so don’t work was delited
Are you saying it was deleted? By an anti-virus application? If so, what application? And you should then look at the preferences of the anti-virus application and tell it to ignore VT_EXT.so.
I’m kind of guessing here because you’re not giving me much information to work on. Please describe detailed what is going on.
i do this ignoring th VT_CEXT.so but noway still same problem
I can’t help much unless you offer more information. I have no idea of what your computer configuration is, nor what applications you run. What anti-virus application is deleting the file? Are you notified when the file is erased?
I assume you are a Windows user? What version of Windows?
Win7 64bit
Kaspersky (kis) 2013
Are you notified when the file is erased=yes
They where notified before that it should not erase this file. Maybe they’ve messed up again.
Adding it to the exclusion list should work: http://support.kaspersky.com/8742
If that doesn’t work you need to contact Kaspersky support.
thank you for your LELP
and good continuation for all your works
i lik what you do thank you
